How is she sleeping?
We
put her down for bed around 7 and it's best if she sleeps until about 8, but she won't always. We've continued with the loose sleep training - it's going slowly and we don't get too many good nights yet. We do still have to wake multiple times a night to pat and paci, but we've got her down to only nursing one time in the night. I've had to come to a peace about the fact that other people's babies sleep through the night without any effort on their part and mine just don't. With both girls we've had to work with them on that. Naps have gotten better, but sometimes she still needs more than she will take. Overall, I figure this sleep thing must get better in the next 3 month period, because that's when we decided to give Naomi a sibling... so I've got some hope. :)
How is she eating?
She still nurses regularly, roughly every 3 hours and she takes a bottle with no problem now (as long as it's at least room temp or warmer). I let her play with a sippy cup once or twice and she knew what to do with it, but was quite startled when she ended up with water in her mouth. We had started solids a little last month and she did okay, but that all went awry this month. The short version: it's just not happening. We are trying to be patient. I've talked to some of my mom friends about it and we may end up skipping purees with this one and just going with finger foods. We'll see. We'll do what works for this one.
Doctor Visit
The doctor visit went really well and she got a good report. I got to ask several questions that I had about some issues that we've been having - nothing that the doctor was concerned about, but some stuff that we will keep working on. Otherwise, she's right on track developmentally. She cried briefly for her shots, but was just fine after some comforting from mommy and we headed home and she took a nap. We go back at 9 months and she actually won't have to have any shots then. (Oh, and wow to the 50% on height - maybe she somehow got some tall genes in there.)
What new tricks does she do?
We had a couple big developments this month. She is now a novice sitter (1 month earlier than Naomi). She has rolled back to front a few times. Overall she is just getting a little bit more mobile, moving around in her crib and on the floor and such. She loves the exersaucer, but her favorite toy on there is the one that freaks Naomi out and sends her on a crying jag, so sometimes I pull her out before she's really done. She likes the rainforest toy, but Naomi has just about destroyed the rainforest a few times, so her playtime with that is a little limited. She's playing with it as a type this since Naomi is napping. She loves interacting with Naomi - it always puts a big smile on her face. She loves swim lessons - just a happy little fish.
General Observations?
I really wish these first teeth would come in already - this past few days has been a teething nightmare.
She's always got a smile for people!
Until next time... Enjoy!

How is she sleeping?
We put her down for bed around 7. We've started some loose sleep training this month. I'm so glad that I kept a blog like this for Naomi, because now I can look back and see what we did and when we did it to help with Olivia. Olivia started having some sleep issues at night this past month, so I was able to go back and read about a similar thing happening with Naomi and what we did. Thus, the sleep training. By 6 months, she does not need to eat during the night (medically speaking), so we are helping her body to realize that gradually. Naps are still a work in progress. She goes down for them just fine, but doesn't always sleep as long as she should. I'm still working on getting her down to a solid two nap schedule, but she just isn't quite there. It'll all get better in the next couple months as she starts being able to go three hours without a nap.
How is she eating?
Only one change. She still nurses regularly, roughly every 3 hours like most
babies her age. She got a little better with the bottle this month as she got it at least once a week and warmed up. We also started some solids this month - oatmeal only (we're skipping rice cereal this time around). She did okay. We'll work on some other things next month.
Doctor Visit
No doctor visit this month.
What new tricks does she do?
Actually, not much new this month it seems. Just a little more mastery of previous skills. A lot more reaching and playing with her toys. She likes her exersaucer pretty well. She loves interacting with Naomi. She would rather sit or stand (with assistance), then be on the floor. Still can't quite get the full roll from back to front. She started swim lessons this month and is doing well. She didn't freak out at all and seems to really like the pool (I'm sure it helps that it is heated). Otherwise, I'm just so curious to see how she will develop.
General Observations?
She's a happy doll and that is about all!
Until next time... Enjoy!

Weight: 26 lbs (25%)
Height: 31.25 in i.e. 2 ft 7 in (3%)
Diapers: size 5 (partly because we ran out of 4s and just decided to switch)
Clothes: 18-24 month in some pants, but mostly 24 month and some 2T
How is she sleeping?
Sleeps
from about 7:30pm or so to 7:00-7:30am. She naps from about 1-3. I should say, I put her in the crib from 1-3 daily and sometimes she naps the whole time, sometimes not, and sometimes more. I thought I'd hate the one nap schedule, but I really like it. So much more freedom to do fun stuff in the morning. Honestly, I'm looking forward to Olivia joining her.
How is she eating?
She is getting much better at using a fork and spoon which is awesome. She seems to be more open to a wider variety of foods lately (not all the time, but at least sometimes). She drinks well out of any type of sippy cup. She can drink out of a normal cup or a drink with a normal straw, but it's not always a neat and clean affair. Favorites include: marshmallows, nilla wafers, graham crackers, peanut butter crackers, grapes, mandarin oranges, yogurt, various "squeezy fruits", chicken nuggets, ketchup, waffles, oatmeal, and pretty much whatever I'm eating. :)
Doctor Visit
She had her first full well visit with the new pediatrician. Everything was good. She's on track developmentally. Naomi threw a short little fit when I wouldn't let her play in the cabinet. The doctor looked down and remarked that was exactly what we should be seeing and is very developmentally appropriate. :) Kinda made me laugh. We ignored her and she stopped. Usually does the trick at some point. She got one little shot for her chicken pox vaccine booster and she got a toe prick to check her iron levels one last time. All was well. She cried, but was better after some snuggles and magical kisses. It'll be a sad day when my kisses don't make it all better. Otherwise, they said to go ahead and switch to 2% milk, feel free to make an appointment with a dentist for her, and we made her 3 year appointment (now that's a weird thought).
What new tricks does she do?
She runs, marches, stomps, tiptoes, dances, climbs and is physically just a bundle of energy and activity.
She continues her swim lessons and loves it - our little fearless fish. I think she really wants to be able to swim on her own, but just isn't quite there yet.
The language development continues to explode and you can have little toddler conversations with her. I love that. She strings together some basic sentences and picks up words left and right.
She knows her shapes (circle, square, rectangle, star, heart, octagon, pentagon, triangle, cone, diamond, and oval at least).
She sorta knows her colors.
I think she knows most letters and I've heard her recite chunks of the alphabet, but not all at once.
She can count to at least 12 and maybe up to 15.
She can sing a handful of little songs (Twinkle Twinkle, Row Your Boat, Itsy Bitsy Spider, Wheels on the Bus, etc).
She knows that we pray before meals and will happily remind us if we forget and she can say Amen with the best of them.
She is starting into the world of pretend play and role playing. She takes care of dolls, stuffed animals, and her stuffed Mickey/Minnie. They take naps, get diaper changes, etc. She has a little kitchen table thing for food play and adores playing with her tea sets.
We are hoping to get her into some dance and tumbling classes this year as she loves to dance, hang upside down, do flips over my arm, do somersaults on the floor, etc.
General Observations?
We're not sure if those two year molars have all come through yet or not, but they've definitely been on the way.
She is such a little fireball - fiercely independent, full of energy, adventurous, playful and happy. An older lady at church today said, "If that (Naomi) doesn't put a smile on your face, then you're just dead." How right she is.
Naomi is showing some signs of readiness for potty training, but there is one critical one that I'm waiting on, before I dive into that. (She doesn't often tell me if she needs a diaper change and mostly doesn't care.) We want to be sure we are going to be successful before we go for it, so we are equipped and ready to go as soon as she gives me a little more of a green light. In the meantime, we're just trying to encourage.
She still gets to have a paci in her crib for naps and nighttime and she has one for the car. I'm trying to figure out when we want to get rid of that. I'm half thinking that I'll wait until this summer and just eliminate all the pacis in the house at once for both her and Olivia. We'll see. Wow, I could probably write so much more, but the bed is calling my name, so...
Until next time... Enjoy!

How is she sleeping?
Put simply, it seems like she is sleeping randomly. We still frequently get one 4-5 hour stretch at night, resulting in only having to get up once. But, sometimes, it's every 3-4 hours as the result of gas or growth spurts (we figure). Ugh - do not like those nights. We did eliminate what I dub "the top off feeding" where I would wake her up just before we went to bed for a last feeding, so that is some of our adjustment. The bedtime routine has gotten better and she goes down a little easier now. Naps are definitely the big improvement this month. I can usually get a good one hour nap in the crib in the morning and a couple hours in the afternoon in the crib. How hard I have to work for that varies, but I'll take it. She probably needs a little more sleep than that, but she'll grow out of it, so oh well.
How is she eating?
No change. She still nurses regularly, roughly every 3 hours like most babies her age. She takes a bottle periodically and does okay with it, but my previous impression that she prefers breast milk is spot-on as she has refused a bottle from a caregiver at least once and will only take a couple of ounces warmed up from Brian. That is so very different from Naomi, who would happily take a bottle anytime, from almost anyone, and at any temp. I would say we need to work on the bottle thing, but at this point, I figure I'll just wait a few months and work on the sippy cup thing instead.
Doctor Visit
It went well. She checked out great - right on her growth curves and even a slight uptick in height (I'm sure that's a fluke). She did great with her shots, crying only briefly until I picked her up and soothed her. Naomi also did much better this time. She started to stress, so I lifted her up to watch the doctor examine Olivia more closely and explained that the doctor was using a "Mouseketool" to listen to baby sister's heartbeat, thump thump. She was satisfied and resumed exploring the exam room and all of it's unlocked cabinets and drawers. Which brings me to a question. This is my second pediatrician and it was the same with both - why, oh why, are none of the lower cabinets and drawers childproofed? This would make visits so much less stressful for me, especially now that I have two in tow.
What new tricks does she do?
More smiling. More giggling. And, now a broad range of noises that have formed into her own unique baby babble. She does good solid push-ups. She rolls over tummy to back, but sometimes refuses to do so now. She has been working on going the other way, but still gets stuck on that arm. We'll see if she figures it out anytime soon.
General Observations?
She's still a cutie and has developed an adorable little peach fuzz on her head. You may notice that we had a hard time getting a picture where she didn't have her hand in her mouth. She may be teething or she may just really like her hands, but it's kinda cute. She is getting so much more interactive and her little personality is starting to come out. In fact, she loves being talked to, tickled, etc. It just lights her up. She seems to hate riding in the car, but I recall Naomi being the same way at this age. She's also in that phase where she doesn't want to be in her infant carrier at restaurants but she can't sit up in a high chair yet, so she complains a bit. Lots more changes are coming... it's an exciting world.
Until next time... Enjoy!
I've never been a big fan of the whole New Year's Resolutions thing, but I do think it is valuable to set some goals for yourself. Yeah, it's basically the same thing and the difference is merely semantics. However semantics can translate into attitude and while resolutions are the things that we break, goals are the things we strive to achieve. So without further delay, here are...
My Goals for 2013
1) Read my Jesus Calling Devotional daily. I was blessed to be given this by my MOPS Titus Mom, Gail, and I'm excited to have something short and sweet to encourage me in this area. I suck at Bible study and "quiet time" type things, so this would be quite the achievement.
2) Lose half of my baby weight gain (i.e. 30 pounds). It took two years and two babies to get this mom-bod, so I'm giving myself two years to turn it into a strong and healthy mom-bod. This seems reasonable. Along the way, I plan to have little mini-goals, but this is the big picture on this front. I'm on My Fitness Pal, so come find me under the user name culpgal. :)
3) Organize my house. These are my specific projects: pantry org, border clean-up in the kitchen/dining and master bath, toy org with picture labels so Naomi can help and I'm sure others that I can't think of right now.
4) Read at least 4 books this year. I love to read, but tend to just park it in front of the tv and I have a lot of books in my q.
5) Do more activities like crafts and stuff with my girls. (Anything would be more, so...yeah.) Naomi is just getting to an age where this is really starting to be a need.
That seems a good start. I do have a few other things that I'd like to accomplish, but want to be sure that I don't turn this into an impossible list destined for failure. As it is, if I manage to pull this off, I'll be pleasantly surprised, but it is definitely within my grasp. :)
